Thank god (at least some) insurance companies are getting better at covering preventive exams--which save them money in the long term, what a concept! I began having colonscopies more frequently than what is recommended (after 3 years if a polyp is found) after losing a good chunk of my colon when it was recommended that a sessile polyp be removed surgically (it turned out to be benign). (It's a miserable experience but I feel like I can't afford to risk losing more of my colon!) My GI doc was surprised that BCBS is happy to cover a colonoscopy annually.
With regard to Alzheimer's Disease, more & more research is indicating that sleep deprivation is an important factor predisposing toward this disease.
